DECARBOXYLATION

Decarboxylation is a process that is specifically applied to our balanced and higher THC products. The Cannabis plant doesn't produce CBD or THC directly but instead synthesizes cannabinoid acids like CBGA, CBDA, CBCA, THCA, and THCVA. These acids need to be activated through decarboxylation to convert them into their usable forms, such as CBD. Decarboxylation involves heating the cannabinoid acids to enhance their bioavailability and interaction with the body's endocannabinoid system. During this process, each cannabinoid acid transforms into its corresponding cannabinoid compound. To ensure effective decarboxylation, key factors include optimizing temperature, selecting the appropriate heating method, determining the duration of heating, maintaining moisture levels, and involving a testing laboratory to monitor and control the process using outputs from TLC and HPTLC.

WINTERIZATION/ DEWAXING

In cannabis extracts, there are naturally occurring non-active ingredients such as waxes and lipids that have limited medicinal effects. To produce the purest concentrates, particularly for medicinal products intended for inhalation or sublingual use, significant emphasis is placed on removing these waxes. At Indogenix, we utilize a dewaxing process called winterization, which involves using a solvent, typically ethanol, followed by cold freezing (below -80 degrees Celsius) and specialized micro-filtering.

Through winterization, all plant waxes, lipids, and chlorophyll are removed while retaining the presence of all known or unknown phytochemicals. The resulting extract is referred to as a full-spectrum dewaxed extract.

Dewaxed cannabis extract encompasses over 100 cannabinoids. When analyzing raw cannabis for its chemical properties, it is found that the extract contains abundant quantities of CBD and THC, as a significant portion of CBDA and THCA converts into CBD and THC during the decarboxylation process. Additionally, a sufficient amount of CBG, which serves as the precursor to CBN, is also present in the extract.
